USACE, Town of Hebron and Rep. Mrvan Celebrate Completion of Snake Flats Water Main Replacement Project

HEBRON, Ind. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chicago District, the Town of Hebron and U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan celebrated the completion of the Snake Flats Water Main Replacement Project during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 7 at the Hebron Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The $4.03 million federal-local partnership project replaced aging water infrastructure that was prone to frequent breaks with approximately 3,800 feet of new 8-inch water main and 5,100 feet of new 6-inch water main.

Town Council President John Spinks, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chicago District representative Lt. Col. David Dawes, and Rep. Mrvan delivered remarks before participating in the ceremonial ribbon cutting at the wastewater treatment plant, 101 Utility Dr.

The completed improvements strengthen Hebron’s water distribution system by providing more reliable water pressure for homes and businesses, supporting safe and dependable drinking water, and improving fire-flow capabilities for first responders.

“Reliable water infrastructure is fundamental to a community’s safety, health and ability to grow,” Lt. Col. Dawes said. “The Chicago District is proud to have worked with the Town of Hebron to deliver this important improvement.”

The project was authorized under Section 219 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1992, as amended, which enables the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to assist local communities with planning, design and construction of environmental infrastructure projects.

The Town of Hebron, as the project’s non-federal sponsor, provided a cost share of $458,333 and an additional $2,718,383.85 to fully fund construction of the base contract and bid options.

“Thank you to all of the leaders with the Town of Hebron and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for this successful partnership and commitment to improving water quality for residents and businesses in our region,” said Rep. Frank Mrvan (IN-01). “Let us build on this momentum and continue to collaborate on initiatives that invest in the health, safety, and economic infrastructure of our communities.”

The project replaces water mains that were difficult to access and maintain, providing Hebron residents and businesses with a more reliable water system for years to come.

The Chicago District partnered with the Town of Hebron to complete the project, which supports public health, community safety and the town’s continued growth.
